three kids at school

Opened in 2006, the purpose-built Ashley Schaffer Early Learning Centre (ELC) at Carmel is a large, welcoming space that houses our Kindergarten, Pre-primary and YearÌý1 classes.

It provides a dynamic, safe and stimulating environment specifically designed to cater to the special learning needs of children in their early years. Year levels with two classes, have the ability to joined together or remain separate, depending on the priorities of the lesson. As well as spacious classrooms that encourage investigative learning, the ELC includes a Kosher kitchen area and a large outdoor play space that includes sandpits, play equipment, a mud kitchen and a purpose-built cubby house.

Our Early Childhood program recognises that learning is a continuous process and a collaborative effort between teachers, students and families. The curriculum nurtures the development of our children as self-motivated, lifelong and active learners with an understanding of themselves, their community and their world. Carmel ELC students are active participants in the planning, execution and evaluation of their individual learning journeys. As part of a vibrant teaching and learning program, students are exposed to Jolly Phonics,Ìýhands-on mathematics experiences, PATHS and iPad technology to ensure they are literate, numerate and well equipped socially and emotionally to function effectively in modern society.
